COME VISIT HUYS EGMONT

DAILY WALK-IN

Huys Egmont is a cultural center in which the Egmond Historical Society and the Kennemerwaard Library take care of the opening and programming. Every day, tourists, visitors, day trippers and residents can come here for information, a cup of coffee, a cultural activity or historical research.

In addition, it is also a wonderful place for groups and companies to spend a day or part of the day. For more information, take a look at Rent a space   and see all the options available.

FUN FOR ALL AGES!

There is plenty to do in Huys Egmont. Not only can adults come here for a cup of coffee, borrow a book, visit our exhibition, historical research or just for fun, Huys Egmont is also fun for children!

For example, we have a super fun 'FIND THE 25 DIFFERENCES', where children can look for the differences between our castle painting and a manipulated print of this painting, whether or not accompanied by a parent. This usually keeps them busy for a while!

HISTORY

Egmond has a very rich history. With the mighty Abbey in Egmond-Binnen, the medieval center of power was located here. The lords (and later counts) of Egmond managed the possessions of the Abbey, but gained even more prestige and power themselves. This is how the House of Egmond was created, of which Lamoraal van Egmont is the best-known descendant. His dramatic death inspired Beethoven and Goethe to write masterpieces.

The castle and abbey were finally destroyed in 1573.

In the 1930s, the remains of the old castle were excavated as part of the employment. The then recovered foundations are opposite the visitor center and are free to visit.

We are working hard to get a permanent exhibition about the lords of Egmond and their ancestral castle in Huys Egmont. Unfortunately, this has not yet been realized, so we have temporarily redesigned the exhibition space. Curious with what? Just look at 'EXHIBITIONS'.
